David Wallimann – This Was Hiding In The Dorian Mode All Along!

Today I want to show you a very simple concept that you can apply to most instrumental improvisations.

I think the Dorian mode is the most useful mode in rock, blues and funk styles because it is very close to the minor pentatonic. The minor blues scale is also very close to the minor pentatonic.

If we combine the minor blues scale with the dorian mode we find a “hiding” diminished arpeggio.

In conclusion we have four elements to spice up our improvs: the minor pentatonic, the minor blues scale, the dorian mode and the diminished arpeggio.
